Friends of The Wanamaker presents Wanamaker Organ Day June 4 at Macy’s in Philadelphia. The schedule begins at 10 am with pipe chamber tours and special presentations, including Rick Seifert's sound-and-image Wanamaker Organ tribute.
The first concert takes place at 11 am with Peter Richard Conte, Walt Strony, and Monte Maxwell. Peter Conte shares the console with Andrew Ennis for a four-hand arrangement from "The Pines of Rome." The program is broadcast live at WRTI-FM and over the Internet at WRTI.org.
French choral selections at 5 pm showcase a professional massed choir in works by Widor, Franck, Vierne, Fauré and others. Rounding out the festivities are pipe-chamber tours, audio-visual presentations, plus a 2 pm Laurel and Hardy silent-movie romp with Walt Strony on the Greek Hall Wurlitzer ($10). For earlybirds, a full day of more intimate, free events is held on Friday June 3 too! Full details are listed at wanamakerorgan.com.
The ticketed Evening Spectacular begins at 8 pm with light refreshments and Wurlitzer music in Macy's Greek Hall. The action then moves to the Grand Court, where Peter Richard Conte, Walt Strony, and Monte Maxwell present classics in the Grand Court.
Tickets for the Grand Evening Concert are available from the Friends’ Webstore, where one can purchase their new CD, "Virgil Fox Remembered." It features epic masterworks from the Peter Conte Fox Wanamaker memorial concert from 2012.
