Pro Organo announces a new two-CD organ recording, Nordic Journey, Volume XVII: North Atlantic Voyage (7316), featuring James D. Hicks performing the majority of the program on the four-manual 2013 Hermann Eule organ in Bødo Cathedral, Norway. 

The remainder was recorded on the 1992 Klais organ in Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík, Iceland. Composers represented include Aaron David Miller, Paul Halley, Kenneth Leighton, Kristian Blak, Christian Praestholm, and Kjell Mørk Karlsen. Karlsen’s Missa Norvegica is scored for organ and hardanger fiddle, played by Ragnhild Hemsing

American organist James D. Hicks continues his exploration of organ music by Nordic composers, with this documentary on the making of Nordic Journey, Volume 12

Shot in the Uranienborg Kirke in central Oslo, Norway, James Hicks is joined in the video by instrumentalists from Greater Oslo, including a bass quartet from the Oslo Philharmonic, the percussion ensemble SISU, recorder player Caroline Dahl Eidsten Dahl, and a quartet of folk violinists.  

The 27-minute video contains commentary from James Hicks and from Kjell Mørk Karlsen, the Oslo-based composer whose works are featured prominently in the ProOrgano double-CD release.  ProOrgano.com  item 7299.
