Nordic Journey, Volume XI

Pro Organo announces a new three-disc organ recording, Nordic Journey, Volume XI (7297, $28.98), featuring James D. Hicks performing on the 2007 Paschen Kiel organ at Central Pori Church, Pori, Finland.

The three-disc set includes premiere recordings of works by Nordic composers such as Frithjof Spalder, Herman Åkerberg, Yngve Skold, John Granlund, Väinö Ratio, Emil Sjögren, Jacob Ekström, Kjell Mørk Karlsen, Jack Mattsson, Markus Malmgren, Thomas Åberg, Sigur∂ur Sævarsson, Hildigunnar Rünarsdöttir, Gunnar Kristinsson, Fredrik Sixten, Stig Wernoe Holter, Santeri Siimes, and Christian Praestholm.

Nordic Journey XII

American organist James D. Hicks continues his exploration of organ music by Nordic composers, with this documentary on the making of Nordic Journey, Volume 12. 

Shot in the Uranienborg Kirke in central Oslo, Norway, James Hicks is joined in the video by instrumentalists from Greater Oslo, including a bass quartet from the Oslo Philharmonic, the percussion ensemble SISU, recorder player Caroline Dahl Eidsten Dahl, and a quartet of folk violinists.
