The Diapason is pleased to announce that its second Gruenstein Award is presented to Colin MacKnight for his article, “Proportional relationships in Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge and the intended duration of Contrapunctus XIV.” MacKnight’s work is featured in the May 2022 issue of The Diapason.

MacKnight is director of music for Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated with his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School in 2021 and received the Richard F. French Doctoral Prize for his dissertation, "Ex Uno Plures: A Proposed Completion of Bach's Art of Fugue." He is a member of The Diapason’s 20 Under 30 Class of 2019 and is represented in the United States by Karen McFarlane Artists, Inc.

The biennial Gruenstein Award honors the legacy of the founding editor of The Diapason, Siegfried E. Gruenstein, and the scholarship and creative writing of young authors who have not reached their 35th birthday. The next Gruenstein Award will be presented in 2024.
