Volcano derails organ performance, but the show will go on

Organ Artists Series

Because of the disruption in air traffic caused by the volcano in Iceland, Clive Driskill-Smith will be unable to perform this weekend as originally scheduled. Instead the Organ Artists Series (OAS) of Pittsburgh will be presenting organist Nigel Potts in concert on Sunday, April 25, at 4:00 pm, at Shadyside Presbyterian Church (Westminster Place., Pittsburgh).

The concert is co-sponsored with the church’s Music in a Great Space series.

Born in New Zealand, Nigel Potts’ list of performances spans four continents and includes such distinguished venues as Westminster Abbey (London debut at age 21) St. Paul’s Cathedral, London; Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris; and Washington National Cathedral.

He has become renowned worldwide as “a consummate musician who knows how to communicate the essence of [the] music” (The American Organist), and whose “playing is assured and stylish” (Organists' Review, UK). He has built a reputation for his expressive, colorful and tasteful performances, always communicating and placing the music at the forefront with “warm, sympathetic playing” (Choir Organ, UK).

A reception with light refreshments, shrimp, cheese and hors d'oeuvres follows the concert. Parking is available immediately adjacent to the venue. Dress is casual. Admission is $12; students are $5.
