Nearly 3,000 Musicians and Clergy to Study New Missal in Louisville

July 12, 2011
National Association of Pastoral Musicians

Musicians and clergy will study a new English translation of the prayers sung
and spoken at Catholic Mass during the 34th annual convention of the National
Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) in Louisville, July 18-22.

The prayers, contained in the Roman Missal, will begin to be used in sung form in dioceses around the country as early as September; the full ritual text will be implemented across the United
States and in other English-speaking countries on November 27, the First
Sunday of Advent.

In addition to major sessions and workshops focused on the new Roman Missal,
the convention will include daily prayer, performances, a celebration of the Eucharist with Louisville's
Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz as celebrant, week-long institutes, and daily
workshops for youth, choir directors, pianists,
ensemble musicians, organists, cantors and psalmists, clergy, people working
in intercultural communities, handbell directors, and many others.
