The Diapason February 2015 Newsletter

February 20, 2015

As many of us face practice times in very cold churches (it is below zero as I write this today), we begin Lent and all the work that will lead up to a glorious (and warmer, we hope!) Easter. We wish you well in your labors!

In this month’s newsletter we note the passing of Bertram Schoenstein, Charles Dodsley Walker, and Harry Wilkinson, and offer good wishes to John Rutter and Joe Utterback. There are several new appointments to report: Paul Cienniwa (to Stonehill College), Mark Dirksen and Viktoria Franken (both, to Buzard Pipe Organ Builders), Michael Kleinschmidt (to St. Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle), and Sigurd Melvær Øgaard (to Christ Church Cathedral, Houston).

In other news, Norberto Guinaldo has a new website, and the Estey Organ Museum has acquired a rare instrument for its collection.

Our newsletter sponsor is Buzard Pipe Organ Builders, whose new organ at St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, is featured on the cover of the February 2015 issue of THE DIAPASON.

Our 20 under 30 award nominations have closed, and the winners will be named on March 3 (with information about them in our May issue). Mark your calendar so that you can visit our website on that day and discover who they are!
